He is super talented, kind, professional and knowledgeable, and I felt so comfortable and inspired to learn from the get go. He has such a gentle demeanor about him that pointers and corrections motivate me to do better and practice more, as opposed to making me shy away from the instrument. Learning an instrument as an adult with a full-time job seemed too little too late for me, but Colin certainly proved me wrong. Colin is very communicative and flexible when it comes to schedules. He's always willing to find a time that works for me when I need to stray from our regular cadence. Lessons themselves are generally a mix of what I've been practicing that week combined with new material, which Colin always introduces in a very digestible way. He's extremely observant and thoughtful with feedback and if I ever find myself wrestling with something specific, he knows exactly how to help and what exercises I can do to improve. Colin not only teaches you how to play, he teaches you how to practice. This is a big part of his ethos as a teacher and it really equips you with the tools you need to be successful outside of his studio. He's taught me how to be mindful when practicing, how to find patience, and how best to tackle difficulty when I face it. It's rare to find a musician with such talent who not only knows how to share that experience and knowledge with others, but genuinely enjoys doing so. Colin's a massive music nerd in the best way possible, his passion is evident from day one and rather infectious. Listening plays a big role in learning and I love that Colin often sends me off with album/artist recommendations--sometimes to digest and discuss and other times just to enjoy. Teaching aside, Colin's an absolute stand-up guy. He's kind, respectful, witty, and truly cares about his students. I'm amazed by how much I've learned already and plan to study with him for as long as I can.
